The MexiMutt Project was born when our founder, Angela Adams, returned home after volunteering at a spay and neuter clinic in Jalisco, Mexico with a great desire to do more to help this community. It’s estimated that 70% of Mexico’s 18 million dogs live on the street, either born as strays or abandoned by their owners, the largest number of street dogs in Latin America. Born Again Pit Bull Rescue’s mission is to save lives by keeping dogs out of local shelters through spay and neuter assistance, owner and shelter support programs, and community education. Working with local partners and thanks to our generous donors, we are able to expand our mission and help the street dogs of Mexico, while continuing to support dogs in need in the Northwest. With the MexiMutt Project, our goals are to:
Fund free spay and neuter clinics for the local community in Guadalajara, Mexico at least 4 times a year. $3,000 per clinic
Care for the feral street dog population with food, sterilization and flea treatment.
$50 per dog for sterilization (all sizes), $100 per week for food, and $10 per dog for flea treatment.Vet, sterilize and transport abandoned street dogs that can be adopted in the US.
$300 for complete USA adoption vetting protocols and $350 for a freedom flight
How you can help
In addition to raising money, we need collars (mainly small and medium) and leashes as many dogs arrive at the clinics on a rope. We also appreciate donations of plastic travel crates (all sizes) for flying dogs to the US. View our Amazon and Chewy wishlist.
Your generosity will make a huge impact on the people and dogs of this rural community. No donation is too small. We're grateful and we appreciate your support in achieving our mission of making the world a kinder place for the animals.
Making a difference
In the last 20 months (2021 and 2022), because of the incredibly generous support of Cassandra Mann at “The Alfred E. Mann Foundation” and “Saving Gizmo’s Friends” - The MexiMutt Project has been able to sterilize 1,647 dogs and 90 cats in the Chapala Lakeside area - (Mezcala, La Cuesta, San Juan Tecomatlan, San Nicolas, Santa Cruz, Hacienda de La Labor and Chapala) and Ixtlahuacán (Ixtlahuacan, Cedros, Buenavista, Santa Rosa, Huerta Vieja, Sabinos, Puerta del Sol, etc) and El Salto (a suburb of Guadalajara). Thank you to Cassandra and her foundations for recognizing that the root of animal homelessness is overpopulation, and that creating spay/neuter solutions is the only answer.
